Biography of Stephanie K

"I want to give you a glimpse of my psyche...

It ain't family friendly, it ain't Life with Mikey..."

Stephanie K's astounding vocal talent, Hollywood looks, creative penmanship and quirky personality make a very powerful combination. She prides herself on the fact that she is not just a singer, but an accomplished songwriter as well.

Her songs have received awards from countless competitions and organizations, including Billboard, Music Nation, The International Songwriting Competition, The Great American Song Contest, The Los Angeles Music Awards, The Hollywood Music Awards, The International Singer/Songwriter Association, the International Unisong Contest, Show Me The Music Contest, The Indie Music Channel, The Nashville Songwriters Association International Song Contest Presented by CMT and The Music City Songwriting Competition.

Early in 2013, she was awarded 1st Prize in the 14th Annual Great American Song Contest from an esteemed panel of judges including Grammy-winning producers, multi-platinum songwriters and industry mainstays. In addition to her 1st place finish in the extremely competitive Pop genre, her song "Slap Me In The Face" finished in the Top 5 of the Adult Contemporary Category.

In 2012, she won the award for "National Vocal Performer of the Year" at the 22nd Annual Los Angeles Music awards, out of a pool of over 10,000 submissions. Also, she was the LAMA recipient for "Hot A/C Artist of the Year" in 2011.

In the spring of 2012, Stephanie swept the pop categories at the Indie Music Channel Awards, winning Best Pop Song, Best Pop Record and Female Pop Artist of the Year.

Born and raised in the Detroit area, she has been performing on stages across the country since a very early age as both a singer and musical theater actress. She has earned a stellar reputation in the Detroit music community and around the globe for her creative lyricism, edgy style and powerful vocals. While attending the University of Michigan on an academic scholarship after graduating from high school, Stephanie K was introduced to esteemed 4-time Grammy Award winning producer Michael J Powell (best known for his work with Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, Aaliyah and SWV.) Their chemistry was immediately palpable, and the duo began an unprecedented partnership in combining the best elements of pop, rock, soul and funk. Says Powell, "Stephanie K is one of the most prolific and talented songwriters I have ever worked with. Combined with her stellar vocal abilities, she is a truly a one-of-a-kind talent."

Stephanie K and Michael Powell are currently hard at work on the national release of her first studio album. On songs like the guitar-driven pop anthem "Ice Cream", Stephanie shows off her playful and sexy side with lyrics that both intrigue and excite ("Boy I know you've got an appetite / I think a sugar high would do you right / So pull me closer, baby, it won't hurt / You've had your dinner baby, I'm dessert.") Records like "Twisted" (which she co-wrote with Powell, Early Mac of Big Sean's crew and several members of the popular rap group Slum Village), "Trouble" and "Crazy Crazy" introduce us to Stephanie's bold, outlandish and wild side. In her own words, "I don't pretend to be anyone I'm not. These songs are all ME. This isn't an act. I'm crazy. I'm trouble. I'm twisted. I'm insane. And I embrace it." K and Powell truly shine on their tunes that combine a mixture of old and new-school styles, such as on "Disaster", a sing-songy mid-tempo jaunt in which she jokingly catalogues all of the reasons why, despite her outward appearance, she is undatable. As the chorus begins, "I'm rough around the edges / I've jumped my share of ledges / And I've got more problems than Lindsay Lohan's mama." Multi-platinum hip-hop producer Detail (Lil' Wayne, Lady Gaga, etc), who just completed Drake's new project, also contributes to some songs on the album, adding yet another layer of diversity to Stephanie's incredibly unique musical style.

As seen in her music videos on her Official VEVO channel, Stephanie K stays true to her personality and manages to perfectly represent the visual image of what we have come to expect from her songs. Stephanie is sexy, dynamic and always in control. She seems to embody the confident beauty that every guy wants but won't "bring home to mom", as it seems she is always riding the thin-line between quirkiness and utter insanity. Says Stephanie, "I could be the worst or the best thing that's ever happened to you. Probably both. That's what I'm trying to show the world." Fitting, as Stephanie is a Gemini and a self-described "true split-personality."

Stephanie has been featured on Inside Edition, FOX 2 News, WXYZ Channel 7 Action News, as well as in The Huffington Post, The New York Post, The Detroit Free Press and other noted television programs, websites and publications. Along with her band, she has graced the stages of countless venues and national festivals, including the famed Whisky a Go-Go, House of Blues and the Palace of Auburn Hills.  She is a regular national anthem singer for both the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Tigers, and is known for her rock&roll fashion sense, as she was named one of the Best-Dest Dressed People in Detroit by Hour Magazine.

She enjoys running, pilates, blackjack, stoli dolis and causing trouble in her spare time.
